About Us

The Little Home Academy is a family operated home-daycare licensed  by the State of Virginia established in 2002. Our home provides a safe, clean, and loving environment that focuses on early-childhood development for a small group of children. The Little Home Academy was created to help working parents have a peace of mind that their children are in good hands while they are at work.

The Little Home Academy is currently operated by Ms. Ruth’s daughter, Sandra Hernando (licensed), with a team of 3 loving teachers.

In the loving memory of Ms. Ruth Villanueva, “Mama Ruth”.

Ms. Ruth Villanueva is a loving and caring mother and teacher. Her love for children can be seen miles away, she cares for every single child as if it was her own child. She provides high quality care, while encouraging individual development so the children can explore and learn.

“Thank you for the many years of service mom. We miss you and we will make sure to carry on your legacy through out the years. Today your are our angel!” -Sandra Hernando

Our Philosophy

At The Little Home Academy we nurture curiosity, creativity, confidence and compassion. We strongly believe in the following 5 principles:

  • Each child is unique.

  • Parents are our partners.

  • Play-based learning is the core of our program.

  • Teacher-Child relationships should last beyond our program.

  • A clean, safe and loving environment can make a difference on a child’s development.

Every child is unique.

Each child learns in different ways and develops at different times. We accommodate to children’s natural curiosity and fully support each child’s development while building problem solving skills and confidence.

Parent are our Partners.

We are a team. We value the input that parents provided on their day to day activities with their children. We believe that a two-way communication system benefits the child’s development.

Play-based Learning

Children learn best as they play, read, draw and interact with each other during pretend play.

Teacher-Child Relationships

A teacher is key for the development of a child, specially during those early years. We always look forward to listening to our alumni stories and seeing their accomplishments.

Environment.

A clean, safe and loving environment can make a difference on a child’s development. A clean and safe environment allows children to explore freely. A loving environment allows the child to feel welcomed and loved.

Our mission is to foster a love for learning in your little ones, through discovery and play, while supporting you, as a parent, during your little ones early childhood years.

“I love to give children memorable days full of joy, challenges, and love; days they can savor  for years to come.”

— Ruth, Owner of The Little Home Daycare
